My mission is simple.

Protecting the freedom to vote.

- Secretary of State Steve Simon

Defending democracy.

Steve’s passion for democracy is personal. His family fled Lithuania where Jews were targets of discrimination and had no say about who governed them. They came to Minnesota and found the rights they sought. His father, an Army veteran, developed Parkinson’s Disease and became unable to stand in line on Election Day. That’s why Steve wrote the law allowing Minnesotans to vote freely from home. Steve lives in Hopkins with his wife, Leia, and his children, Hannah and Noah.

Leading with the truth.

It’s not easy to stand against disinformation. But that’s exactly what Steve Simon has done. The truth is that our election system is fundamentally fair, accurate, honest, and secure. Minnesotans agree. They’ve shown their confidence in our system by making Minnesota #1 in voter turnout for the last three elections in a row.

What does the Secretary of State do?

Steve is Minnesota’s chief elections official. His office is also the “welcome mat” for Minnesota businesses, providing efficient registration and business tools. He runs the Safe At Home program too, which is a home address confidentiality program for victims of domestic violence and others who fear for their safety.
